Loud Man Fest
Abundance, apples, and uplifting male voices

‘Tis the season of abundance. Fall harvest, the sew to reap pipeline, and so on. So why am I thinking about scarcity?
Gotta make money, so I don’t have time. Don’t have time, so I can’t make money. Don’t have money, so I can’t go out. Can’t go out, because I don’t have time, because I gotta make money. Ew! Shut up!
At least once a day, I have to remind myself that this feeling, this sticky panic-pressure that stretches its limbs in my chest and reaches up my throat, is there by design. Unfettered capitalism needs to cultivate the scarcity gremlin within us all to survive.

I can’t remember when it happened, but at some point, I must have committed to “being” an “artist”. I distinctly remember standing outside the Heatley after a Halloween show a number of years ago, and my sister telling me that I should really do this, like for real. Standing on Hastings Street smoking a cigarette, dressed up as a tomato, I laughed in her face.
Now, waist-deep, I’m more confused than ever. But one thing I'm learning again and again is that making decisions from a place of scarcity will never lead to happiness.
I’m so guilty of it- I take on way too much because, well, what if this is the LAST opportunity I EVER get? That’s the gremlin talking. She’s in my larynx, saying yes; she’s reaching down my arms, typing “Absolutely, I’d love to!”.
Of course, there’s also the nasty little substrate in which the gremlin is rooted, the soil she kicks up when she dances. Down there, we get into self-worth, security, attachment… haha! No worries.
So here’s to saying no to stuff! Is this an issue for you, too? If not, please write and tell me all about it. Can’t imagine.
UPCOMING SHOWS!
I’m so excited for Loud Women Fest Halifax, which is happening on October 18th at the Propeller Arcade. Loviet, Burry, Moira & Claire, Angel Girl, and Pillow Fite are on the lineup as well. Dreams are made of nights like these.
I’ll be playing at Nova Scotia Music Week in Yarmouth! My set is on Thursday, October 23rd at 10:15pm at the Firehall.
I have one more fun fall Halifax show announcement coming, but that’ll be a next week thing. Stay tuned!
OTHER UPCOMING BITS
NOWADAYS is coming up quick! NOWADAYS is a festival I co-organize with a group of buds in Dartmouth. It’s happening from October 9-11. We’re definitely going to sell out this year, so grab your tickets :)
Morning Club is happening tomorrow at Ramblers- c’mon by!
A brief note about Loud Women Fest: Hilariously, there is a 6-band bill at the Seahorse down the street on the same night- all dudes. ALL DUDES. Is it called “Loud Men Fest”? Absolutely not. And guess what? That same night, upstairs at the Marquee, you’ll find a 4-band bill. All men. And the people responsible don’t see anything wrong with that. It drives me absolutely crazy!
LOL (lots of love)
