Put me on ice
New year, newbie
I love ice skating SO much. It feels like flying. I'm not all that good at it, which almost makes it better.
I love watching hockey players and figure skaters glide effortlessly; their movements are so alien to me with my lurching gait. I actually quite like the fact that I need to pay close attention lest I fall.
In time, I will improve at skating, and there will be new magic in the ease. For now, though, the moments when I do glide are that much sweeter.
Whether flailing or sailing across the ice, there's something to appreciate. The process, the could-be's, the potential, the hard-won wins. Being a novice is awesome.
Two of the trickiest things in life:
Knowing when you're a rookie,
Knowing when you're seasoned.
Two of the best things in life:
Identifying times when you're a rookie, and letting it fill you up with permission and audacity.
Identifying when you know exactly what you're doing, and letting it do the same.
