What are your values?
The rise of Gollumcore, Protonmail, and Capricorn culture
Happy holidays; happy Capricorn season; happy almost-birthday to me, my mum, and Sadie; happy actual birthday to Leo, who was my classmate in primary school. I have a weird memory for dates.

Capricorn is truly one of the most under-appreciated signs of the zodiac. I ride for Gemini and Scorpio, who are saddled with the lion's share of unfair criticism and prejudice, but Capricorn is sorely misrepresented, too.
Money-obsessed and serious? Nay. Dry wit, practicality, and quiet eccentricity. Have you ever met a humourless Capricorn? No. You haven't.
If we can extend the tired Capricorn trope of preoccupation with money to resources more broadly, even values, then maybe I do fit the (crisp, $100) bill.

Let’s identify our values! ⊹˚₊
We exchange our (finite, precious) money/time/energy for things every day. If we haven't taken the time to identify our values, then these patterns of spending can become a proxy for our internal value system.
Here’s the risk: over time and without guidance, the sheer volume of input erodes our internal compass, and we may find ourselves adrift in the Metaverse, halfway convinced we need a red light UV micro-current sculpting face and neck mask. I of course cannot overstate how hypothetical this example is.

At this point in the year 2025, I feel a little Gollum-esque; red-eyed, slimy, licking my lips and stroking the remaining shreds of my data sovereignty and fractured attention in a tatty loincloth pocket. I'm considering switching to Protonmail just to feel something.
It comforts me to know that attention and energy are only finite if you subscribe to the concept of time as a linear progression, an ever-forward plodding through 3-dimensional space. Snooze! No thanks. But that's a different conversation.
For a lot of my life, I didn't really know what my values were; I just had a vague sense of when something didn't feel right. Sometimes I didn't listen to that voice, and those times hurt and taught me to pay attention. So now I've made a list, like a good little Capricorn:
Freedom · Authenticity · Creativity · Service · Generosity · Growth · Connection
I would love to hear what your values are, plz reply to this email and tell me!
Happy holidays, tons of love, and thank you so much for your support throughout 2025.
xoxo

I’ve shared this little exercise below that I thought was kind of fun and relevant. It’s a little cheesy/self help-y but I actually think it’s pretty cool. It’s like a little questionnaire tool to help you figure out your values. Also a fun family bonding activity for the holidays. I think in the end you’re supposed to come away with only 2.
